Summer Solstice 2026

Summer Solstice

Here in the Northern Hemisphere, the Summer Solstice is in our sights. This is the moment we celebrate the full return of the Sun — when daylight stretches to its longest point and the nights grow shortest. It marks the true beginning of summer, a season of warmth, growth, and outward energy.

Astrologically, the Solstice can fall anytime between June 20th and June 23rd. This year, it arrives on Sunday, June 21st, inviting us to pause, honor the light, and welcome the turning of the wheel once again.

The Summer Solstice represents all the work and planning we put in during the darker months of winter. The word Solstice comes from the Latin word for sun (sol). Ancient people added stare or sistere, which means “to stand still” or “to stand or stop”. A time when the Sun seems to be standing still in the sky. This is a gentle reminder to stand back and just be.

Across the world, the longest day of the year has always been a moment of reverence. Many Native American tribes honored the Summer Solstice with the Sun Dance — a ceremony of singing, drumming, prayer, and deep spiritual connection. Far to the south, the Aztecs and Mayans built temples aligned precisely with the shadows cast during the solstices, turning the Sun’s path into sacred architecture.

In pagan traditions, this day is known as Litha, a celebration of balance between fire and water. The Druids simply call it Midsummer, a time when the natural world is at its fullest bloom. Folklore says that on this night the veil between our world and the fairy realm grows thin — and if you’re lucky, you might just catch a flicker of magic in the twilight.

As we honor the height of the Sun’s power, take a quiet moment to look back on the last six months since the Winter Solstice. Notice how far you’ve traveled, how much you’ve grown, and how your inner landscape has shifted. Offer gratitude for the people, places, and experiences that have supported you. Then let this bright, expansive energy guide you as you set fresh intentions for the months ahead.

Below are a few rituals for the Solstice.
